30 Weeks Pregnant: Your Baby’s Development

Making headway. Your baby's brain continues its incredible development. This week, the brain begins to take on its distinctive wrinkled appearance. These wrinkles are called convolutions, and they allow the brain to hold more brain cells. Lanugo, the ultra-fine hair that covered your baby's body, starts disappearing.

A shared meal. The calcium from the milk you drink goes directly to building baby’s bones. Likewise, the iron in your pre-natal vitamins and the iron-rich foods that you eat will boost iron supply, which will last until baby is six to nine months old. Protein is also crucial now because it supports healthy cell growth throughout your baby's body.

30 Weeks Pregnant: Your Symptoms

The seventh-month itch. The stretching skin on your belly may start itching. This itching is another normal pregnancy side effect, but keep in mind that scratching only makes it worse. Instead, try massaging your abdomen gently with a moisturising lotion.

Looking for Dr. Right. It's not too early to start searching for a paediatrician, family physician or midwife for your baby.–In fact, the earlier the better. It's important to find a provider with whom you're completely comfortable since you'll be seeing him or her a lot (especially during your baby's first year). Ask your friends for recommendations and take the time to interview each candidate.

Did you know? Your baby is really starting to pack on the weight. In the remaining weeks of pregnancy, baby will double or triple in weight! As a result, this is the period of your pregnancy when you’ll gain the most weight as well.
